Step into PE at Holy Family...
At Holy Family, our Physical Education and School Sport Curriculum is designed to foster the development of individuals who are actively engaged in physical activities throughout their lives. We adopt an innovative approach to pedagogy and select pertinent learning content that our pupils can readily access and apply in various contexts as needed. This encompasses a diverse range of sports, physical games, and gymnastics.
Through our selected scheme (GetSet4PE), which we tailor to meet the unique needs of our school, pupils will cultivate competence, confidence, and essential skills such as teamwork, effective communication, emotional regulation, and leadership. We offer opportunities for children to thrive through physical activity, enhancing their understanding of the benefits that being active contributes to both their physical health and mental well-being.
At Holy Family, children are encouraged to take ownership of their own PE learning by recognising their own strengths as well as those of their peers, thereby allowing them time to improve. Oracy techniques are explicitly integrated into PE lessons to bolster children's acquisition of knowledge and skills, ensuring that subject-specific vocabulary is both taught and utilised. The pupils are afforded the chance to reflect on and enhance their skills through exploratory and group discussions. Our students employ the social and emotional aspects of oracy to nurture teamwork and cultivate positive attitudes during games.
We strive to create positive and engaging experiences that encourage lifelong participation in physical activities while developing responsible citizens equipped for life, such as the ability to collaborate effectively in a team. We will embed the values of Holy Family into all physical activities to cultivate constructive attitudes both inside and outside of school. Opportunities for competition and participation in a myriad of physical activities, games, and sports will be provided, including chances for children to represent their school. Our school is committed to inclusivity in physical education, providing opportunities for disadvantaged children, those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), or pupils who may lack confidence.
At Holy Family, we implement weekly lunchtime schedules where personal best challenges are introduced. Students are given ample opportunities to engage in competitions and festivals with other schools, fostering resilience and helping them adapt to new environments. Ultimately, they learn the essential qualities of being outstanding competitors. Furthermore, we emphasise the significance of physical activity and the right to health, making relevant connections with the Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) curriculum.
