PSHE CURRICULUM

Step into PSHE at Holy Family...

“Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a constant attitude.”

–Martin Luther King Jr.

What does PSHE look like at Holy Family?

At Holy Family, we embrace diversity and promote mutual respect, exemplifying and inspiring qualities in our pupils such as respect, courtesy, and honesty. These fundamental values shape and enhance the relationships we cultivate among students, as well as between staff and students, and assist our young learners in grasping their rights and responsibilities as members of society.

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) is seamlessly integrated into every lesson at Holy Family, with dedicated theme days and afternoons that focus on British Values and the concept of "Speak Truth to Power." Through this approach, children gain insight into our diverse and intricate world, cultivating empathy and respect for the rights of all individuals.

Our curriculum (Life to the Full +) has received endorsement from the Salford Diocese and is meticulously designed to ensure progressive learning across the primary strands of PSHE and Relationships and Health Education (RHE), while aligning with and supporting the principles of the Catholic faith. Each year's learning builds on previous knowledge and skills, ensuring that children's understanding is deepened and revisited. A meaningful PSHE curriculum contributes to children becoming more content and positive about their school experience, enhancing their comprehension of rules and responsibilities and equipping them to handle setbacks and disagreements.

The curriculum is organised around three key themes:

1.       Created and Loved By God

2.     Created to Love Others

3.     Created to Live in Community

Lessons are conducted weekly by the class teacher through whole-class instruction and are also integrated into other contexts, such as assemblies and school-wide events. We utilise external agencies to enhance learning, featuring workshops on Bike Training, the School Nurse, Road Safety, Careers Day, Speak Truth to Power Day, and the Fire Brigade.
