Step into French at Holy Family...
At Holy Family Catholic Primary School, we implement the French Language School scheme of work which specifically tailored to meet our school's unique needs and is delivered by a specialist French teacher. This ensures the delivery of a relevant, comprehensive, dynamic, and ambitious French curriculum that aims to inspire and engage our pupils through a diverse array of topics and themes. We hold high expectations for all students, encouraging them to reach their full potential in their French education, with the ultimate goal being that they feel motivated and capable of pursuing further language studies beyond Key Stage 2. Our mission is to nurture children into curious, confident, and reflective language learners, providing them with a solid foundation that will equip them for advanced language studies. French instruction is provided in Key Stage 2.
The French curriculum will undergo continuous updates and evaluations, resulting in an evolving programme of study. This will ensure that our pupils' knowledge of the foreign language advances each academic year and is progressively developed throughout their primary education. The curriculum aligns with the aims and content of the National Curriculum. We focus on the four essential language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with all relevant grammar taught in an age-appropriate manner. This approach enables children to employ their learning across various contexts, establishing robust foundations for future language acquisition and contributing to their overall academic attainment in other subjects. Children will incrementally build on their prior knowledge as lessons incorporate recycling, revision, and consolidation of previously acquired language, while simultaneously enhancing all four language skills:
All pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or those who are disadvantaged, receive support to fully access the French curriculum. This includes additional adult assistance, tailored resources, and visual aids.
We cultivate a passion for languages in our pupils, broadening their perspectives on diverse countries, cultures, and communities. Students will learn that in a multilingual society, the ability to communicate effectively in another language is a significant asset. They will gradually acquire, utilise, and apply an expanding vocabulary, language skills, and grammatical knowledge, organised around age-appropriate topics and themes. This approach builds towards more complex, fluent, and authentic language use. Our aim is to engage children and prepare them for continued language learning at secondary school.
