Step into English at Holy Family...
At Holy Family, our mission is clear: to ignite a passion for reading, speaking, and writing in every pupil. Through our bespoke curriculum, thoughtfully tailored to each child's needs, we invite our students to dive into the rich world of literature, discovering diverse authors and genres that extend far beyond the classroom walls.
Our English curriculum is designed not just for learning but for true progression. With a bespoke and sequential approach, we ensure that every child is challenged and supported as they develop their skills, enabling them to reach their full potential in English. In fostering a love for language that will last a lifetime we aim to empower our children to express themselves confidently and creatively.
In our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1 (KS1), we implement Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) for phonics instruction. Grounded in the latest research, ELS helps us teach our children how to read effectively, ensuring that their skills are retained in long-term memory for academic success. At Holy Family we follow the Oxford Reading Tree scheme in both KS1 and KS2.
We believe that reading is the key to unlocking a world of imagination, creativity, and knowledge. Our students have the privilege of enjoying a beautiful, cozy library filled with an array of captivating books just waiting to be discovered!
With access to class library books and our strong partnership with the local library, we ensure that every child has the opportunity to borrow tales that ignite their passion for reading.
What’s even more inspiring? Some of our talented pupils have taken their love for stories a step further and become published authors themselves! Their work is now available nationwide, proving that each book read can inspire the next great story.
